We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you.

Craft Beer Dinners
In conjunction with American Craft Beer Week (May 13-19), Squatters in Salt Lake City, Park City’s Squatters Roadhouse and Wasatch Brew Pub in Park City will be hosting a series of special brew-master dinners. Brew masters Dan Burick, Jason Stock, Jon Lee and Matt Beamer will preside over the dinners, sharing information and anecdotes about Squatters and Wasatch beers, which will be paired with dishes such as ginger & carrot soup, arugula with roasted bell peppers, black & tan brownies and more. For menus, dates, and information on pricing and reservations, e-mail

Burrito Bikers
Kudos to Jorge Fierro, founder of Rico Mexican Market/Rico Brand, and his crew of volunteers, who have been assembling and delivering burritos via bicycles to the homeless, as part of the nationwide Burrito Project. Each week in the spring, Burrito Project SLC volunteers deliver as many as 600 burritos to the hungry and homeless on the streets of our city, and will continue to do so each Monday and Thursday until cold weather sets in and it becomes too chilly to bike. Bikes help volunteers hit pockets such as parks where other delivery vehicles can’t go. As demand increases in the warm summer months, Burrito Project SLC will pass out 1,000 burritos each week. To get involved in making or delivering burritos, visit Burrito Project SLC on Facebook or e-mail, and visit for more information.

Free Bird!
While we’re on the topic of burritos, look for 10 Utah locations of the national Freebirds World Burrito fast-casual restaurant chain to open, beginning with Salt Lake City. Freebirds restaurants are full of energy and free spirit, dedicated to “freedom of choice” and decorated with the Statue of Liberty (“Libby”) riding a custom-built Harley-Davidson. I’ve had the Freebirds roasted carnitas and they’re damned good, as is the killer poblano salsa. In addition to custom-made burritos, Freebird World Burrito menu specialties include tacos, salads, nachos and the always popular “pot” brownie—it’s not illegal, it’s just made in a cast-iron pot. Visit for more information.
