On Wednesday, March 23, Lugano will play host to David Zurowski and Craig Becker of Napa’s Somerston Winery for “An Evening in Napa,” a night of what promises to be memorable food and wine pairings. Among the featured dishes and wines are house-smoked salmon pizzeta with Somerston Sauvignon Blanc Priest Ranch 2008; Dungeness crab tapenade bruschetta and Somerston Highflyer Syrah 2007; red-wine-braised duck leg and polenta “timballo” with Somerston Estate Proprietary Red 2007; and fried chickpea fritters with Somerston Highflyer Grenache Blanc 2009. The seven-course menu is priced at $59 per person, plus tax and gratuity. The optional six-course wine pairing is an additional $39 per person. Can’t Find Christopher’s?
Formerly located in the downtown Peery Hotel, Christopher’s Prime Steak House & Grill has relocated to a larger space at 134 W. Pierpont Avenue, the location previously occupied by Donovan’s Steakhouse. Thankfully, they retained Donovan’s beautiful bar. An Extravagant Hunger
Salt Lake City native Anne Zimmerman has written a new biography of food writer Mary Frances Kennedy (M.F.K.) Fisher called An Extravagant Hunger: The Passionate Years of M.F.K. Fisher, telling the true story of one of America’s most legendary gastronomes and the years in Europe that inspired her greatest prose. In An Extravagant Hunger, Zimmerman traces Fisher’s own appetites—both professional and private—through painstaking research and her private papers and correspondence. San Francisco Magazine says, “With lucid sympathy [Zimmerman] paints Fisher’s accomplishments as that much more remarkable for having been born of so much pain.” Anne Zimmerman will be on hand to sign and discuss her new book at The King’s English Bookshop (1511 E. 1500 South, KingsEnglish.com) on March 19 at 7 p.m.
