This week, give of yourself to help the hungry, the shoeless and to support unity in your community. If you haven’t heard about Food Not Bombs, it’s an event where you can donate food to those in need or pick some up if you’re in need yourself. This weekend, bring a pair of shoes to donate at the Naked Foot 5K and test your barefoot running. Or, you can also help volunteer at the Sorenson Unity Center’s CommUnity Fair.
Food Not Bombs
Thursday, May 24
The premise of Food Not Bombs is pretty self-explanatory. Come out to the park and bring food to drop off for those in need—not bombs, that’s clearly not allowed. If you are in need of food, you are welcome to pick some up. The event is free and held most Thursdays throughout the summer, courtesy of the local radicals of the Boing! House. Richmond Park, 450 E. 600 South, 801-364-2462, May 24, 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Naked Foot 5K
Saturday, May 26
Help the charity Soles4Souls get shoes for needy feet by attending the Naked Foot 5K. If you’re up to the challenge, bring a pair of shoes to donate and then try your soles at running the race barefoot (you can keep your shoes on for the race if you want). The final day to register
is May 24, but those who don’t register can still show up and cheer on runners. The event also includes live music, foot massages, information booths, a raffle, a free kids 1K and more. Cottonwood Park, 1580 W. North Star Drive, May 26, 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m., TheNakedFoot5k.com
CommUnity Fair
Saturday, May 26
The Sorenson Unity Center is keeping things neighborly at its fourth annual CommUnity Fair. Come enjoy free entertainment including a bounce house for the kids, sumo suits, raffles and other good family fun. If you want to help the community more, you can also volunteer at the event. Sorenson Unity Center, 1383 S. 900 West, 801-535-6533, May 26, 1-5 p.m.; volunteer hours 12:30-6:30 p.m., SorensonUnityCenter.com
