Fuming Over Tax

Kudos to Don Nash [“Smoking Butt,” April 15, City Weekly] for speaking out and also sending something worthwhile to Gov. Gary Herbert. My husband and other family members and friends smoke; I myself am not a smoker.

The passing of this tobacco-tax increase was wrong. The governor did not sign it because he knew it was wrong.

Still, he has allowed the Legislature to single out a particular product and group of people. Does this ignorant fool even realize that cigarettes are the only product on which the taxes are higher than the cost of the product? So, go ahead, fools, get everybody to quit smoking. But then, where are your funds going to come from? This is a prime example of what caused the Boston Tea Party: taxation without representation!
