We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

Fun in the Sun
It’s time to gear up with the essentials of summertime: good summer reads, a volunteer gig at a festival and as little clothing as possible. This week, you can browse a sidewalk sale, apply to volunteer at a summer festival and exchange your bra for a swimsuit top—all for good causes.

KUED Sidewalk Sale
Thursday, May 26

If you’re in need of some new-to-you summer music or books, or if you’re just a hard-core public-broadcast junkie, don’t miss KUED’s sidewalk sale. Proceeds benefit Utah’s premier public broadcast station, which consistently brings great PBS programming and award-winning local documentaries and TV shows. If that’s not enough, you can also buy $1 hot dogs and 25 cent ice cream—one hell of a summer deal. (Eric S. Peterson) Eccles Broadcast Center, 101 S. Wasatch Drive, University of Utah, 801-581-4478, May 26, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., KUED.org

Summer Fests: Call For Volunteers
Thursday, May 26

The days are getting longer, so you should have some extra hours to volunteer at local festivals. The Utah Pride Festival (June 3-5) wants volunteers for all teams; the Downtown Farmers Market and Art & Craft Market (June 11-Oct. 25) needs people to staff the waste station, work with EBT patrons and run children’s activities at the fall pumpkin festival; and the Utah Arts Festival (June 23-26) needs 1,000 volunteers in various capacities. Recycle Utah: Bra Recycling
Friday, May 27

Celebrate the arrival of the sun by throwing on a halter top or a bikini top and liberating yourself from your bra. Then, donate your clean, gently used or never-worn brassieres to Utah’s brand-new drop-off site for The Bra Recyclers, which collects bras to donate to women in the United States and developing countries. Bras of all kind are collected, and any that don’t hold up will be re-manufactured into other products. You can deliver or mail your bras to the drop-off location at Recycle Utah in Park City. (RP)
