India stimulates the senses with vibrant colors, exotic sounds and curry-filled air. Oh, how mysterious India lures foreigners. Luckily for penny-pinchers who can’t afford to travel, several University of Utah organizations will bring India to us.
For this production, a whirling array of more than 25 acts representing all regions of India will take the stage in quick succession. Folk songs and dances will be performed in front of ornate, authentically displayed stage decorations. Bollywood songs will be sung, and models will showcase polychromatic pashminas in a fashion show. Darshana Menon, 2008 winner of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa—the Indian American Idol—will perform for swooning listeners. However, you won’t feel like a binocular-wearing tourist lost without a map, because the emcee will provide a chickpea of cultural wisdom before each performance.
India without the wafting smells of street vendors? Fear not. Tandoor Indian Grill will cater; dinner is included in admission.
