Ambassadors, in the traditional sense, introduce foreign dignitaries to the local way of life, government and politics. Salt Lake City is looking for volunteers to introduce residents to the wonders of downtown, offer guidance on the sights and even help provide outreach to the homeless. This weekend, hit the track to hit back against ovarian cancer at a short benefit race. Later, don’t miss a Salt Lake County Planning Commission meeting discussing the adoption of a Bicycle Best Practices plan.

As a volunteer street concierge, you can help visitors with everything from finding a place to park to finding a place for a bite or a drink. Volunteers also help those in need of assistance with parking meters and the GreenBike program. Advanced-level ambassadors can also receive training on reporting illegal activity and offering outreach services to the homeless. Volunteers who complete two three-hour shifts in a month will receive community karma points as well as gift cards to downtown shops and restaurants.

Run for Her Life!
Saturday, Sept. 7
This weekend, fight flab and cancer at the seventh-annual Susan Sandovall Run for Ovarian Cancer. The race honors the life and memory of Susan Sandoval, a nurse at Primary Children’s Hospital and LDS Hospital who battled ovarian cancer. By taking part in this 1.75-mile run around Sugar House Park, your $20 registration ($10 for children) will go to fight back against ovarian cancer.

Salt Lake County planners are debating the inclusion of a Bicycle Best Practices resource to be added to the Salt Lake County General Plans. The tool would help guide bicycle policy in all unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County. If you support this policy, then pedal on over to the meeting and let your voice be heard.
