Japanese Fall Festival

Saturday Aug. 28 @ Japanese Church of Christ

In Japan, everything from hot soup to greentea ice cream to underwear can be purchased from vending machines. Modern-day oddities like that, as well as Japan’s rich culture and history, are things to be celebrated and shared.

The Japanese Church of Christ’s festival Aki Matsuri is a time to experience that culture. Foodwise, there’ll be udon noodles, potstickers, steamed buns, curry, sushi and Spam musubi, with an eating contest at 12:30 p.m. When eating in Japan, slurping and making noise signifies enjoyment, so slurp away.

A country store will feature baked goods and handicrafts, and attendees can learn Japanese arts and crafts such as flower arranging, bonsai and origami.
