Lake Effect | It’s an Outrage!

nA Dec. 9 Doug Robinson piece in the Deseret News tells the story of how a group of teenagers, working together, were able to create change in their Utah County community.
n

The group got the Utah County Board of Health to ban smoking from all county parks, starting next month.

n

It’s an inspiring story of community activism—that is, if you’re not a smoker. And the teens came up with a catchy name for their group, too: Outrage.

n

What the story neglected to mention is that OutRage! is actually the name of a 1990s British gay-rights activist organization which, among other things, staged a kiss-in in Picadilly Circus, and advocated the “outing” of political and celebrity hypocrites.

n

Good to hear that the spirit of militant activism is alive and well in Utah County.
