Lake Effect | One Fast Iguana

nAs a big-time enmolada fan, I was alarmed by news that a driver veered off west North Temple, smashed through a wall of the Red Iguana and into one of the restaurant’s dining areas on Monday, Dec. 29. Thoughts of a weeks- or months-long closure for repairs made me develop a sudden craving for delicious mole negro.
n

Not to worry: Two hours after the crash, the resourceful folks there had patched things up well enough to reopen for business, and repairs were expected to be completed Tuesday.

n

“Fortunately, the blinds were down,” owner Bill Coker told the D-News. (Must have been some blinds!) “The newspapers took the brunt of the impact.”

n

Indeed, the newspapers did (thanks, newspapers!). Distribution racks near the restaurant—including a City Weekly rack—were “flattened,” according to CW circulation manager Larry Carter. The racks may have spared the restaurant by absorbing some of the impact.

n

Fortunately, Carter is as resourceful as the Red Iguana, and, as of Tuesday morning, CW’s rack was the only one that had been restored to working order. To Carter goes the 2008 Speedy Iguana Award.
