After eight years creating music together, Late Night Alumni are finally stepping on a stage for the first time. It might seem strange that a longtime-running band has never performed live before, right?
Keyboardist John Hancock says the band has been strictly “a studio band;” they’ve crafted three albums and captured nearly 40,000 Facebook fans nationally and internationally. LNA—Hancock, Becky Jean Williams, Finn Bjarnson and Ryan Raddon—play a unique and ethereal brand of electronica, which mixes digital and analog sounds that are easily distinguishable in today’s house-music scene.
The single “Empty Streets,” from their 2005 debut album of the same title, gained massive support and received Top Ten radio airplay in the U.K. and United States, and reached No. 1 in Spain. Since then, LNA has found loyal fans with their follow-up albums Of Birds, Bees, Butterflies, Etc. and Haunted.
With a title like the latter, the Masonic Temple auditorium will be a fitting backdrop, and the concert will even be filmed for future DVD release. “We want to make the very most of this show,” Williams says. Hancock and Bjarnson live in Salt Lake City and will be calling on friends and local musicians to pull of f a bombastic performance—including a feast for the eyes, thanks to video artists and light technicians.
Adding to the electronic rhythms and organic vocals, LNA “will also have a number of different musicians onstage: live strings, a mandolin and [the show will be] driven by drums,” Hancock says. This performance, other than an enticing first live effort—and “giving [fans] what they wanted,” Williams says—is to test the waters for an upcoming, yet unannounced tour in 2012.
