Liquor Lunacy

I see a very strange disconnect in conservatives’ approach to the free market [“Baby Boom,” Private Eye, Feb. 3, City Weekly]. Why is it that regulations are an evil communist plot to control freedom and bring a reign of communism, but liquor laws telling bars and restaurants what type of architecture and layout they must have are perfectly fine?

If you don’t like seeing liquor from your booth, then either go to a place that is built to suit your tastes or ask to sit on the other side of the room.

Don’t cry for the free market to fix health care and the banking system, then in the same legislative season, dictate who drinks what and where. If you want to punish people for DUIs and other types of public offenses, that is reasonable, but this is micromanagement regulatory lunacy.
