According to Ashley Anderson, founder of Salt Lake City’s loveDANCEmore company, the whole idea behind the free and informal dance series Mudson is to change expectations of what experiencing a dance concert can be.

“In this setting, people are free to offer opinions in a casual way and see the choreographers face-to-face,” says Anderson. “There is no assumption an audience should like or dislike anything it sees but rather offer curiosities that help the work develop. Also, because Salt Lake is small, there isn’t a lot of practice before a large premiere, and many choreographers work and work for one to two small shows and then it’s over. This shows that dances take a lot more critical dialogue and earnest working; it clues an audience into that reality.”

Showing new and in-progress work this month will be University of Utah student Sam Hanson, U of U MFA candidate Rachael Shaw, lauded improv group Movement Forum and Utah Valley University instructor Nancy Carter.
