Students are taking presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at his word. He said if a million students marched on Washington, then college would be free. Well, here's your chance. Participants in the #MillionStudentMarch will demand that public colleges be made tuition-free, all student debt be cancelled and a $15 minimum wage be given to all campus workers. • The Utah Human Race is opening its Holiday Food & Fund Drive with a family-friendly 5K/10K race, held to give Utahns a chance to "run with an attitude of gratitude." The Winter Market at Rio Grande, a project of Urban Food Connections of Utah, returned to downtown Salt Lake City on Nov. 7. In addition to produce, you can buy grass-fed meats, wild and sustainable seafood, honey, jam, salsa, spreads and more. There are also products from bakeries, cheese vendors and six local natural meat purveyors featuring beef, lamb, pork and eggs. With more than 60 local vendors, the market is held for 13 alternating Saturdays, through the month of April. Every other Saturday (next one is Nov. 21), Rio Grande Depot, 300 S. PUBLIC ART
Utah artists or artist-led teams will have an opportunity to submit models and applications for a new series of permanent sculptures as part of the Flying Objects program. Up to 18 permanent sculptures that will be installed in the Broadway District atop the center islands along 300 South from 400 West to 300 East. This is the fifth series of sculptures highlighting local Utah artists, and the first that will be permanent. Each selected artist will fabricate a sculpture that will be attached to a steel post and permanently installed into the medians along 300 South. The budget for each selected sculpture is $12,500 and includes artist's fees and related expenses for design, supplies, fabrication, insurance and transportation.
