A retired master assassin (Jason Statham) must complete three near-impossible hits in order to save a woman he just met/loves deeply (Jessica Alba). Audience members who buy a ticket expecting to see more of the hilariously punked-out Tommy Lee Jones from the trailer are in for a long, largely unfruitful sit. Statham is as amiably macho as always, but this barely-related sequel to his 2011 semi-hit doesn’t give him much to go on, consisting largely of uninspired fistfights, interchangeable shootouts and wasted casting opportunities; putting the luminous Michelle Yeoh in an action movie and not allowing her to kick a single person feels like a criminal offense. Those still willing to tough it out have exactly two (2) highlights to look forward to—namely, a pretty neat sequence involving a ridiculously unsafe glass-bottomed penthouse swimming pool, and an early stunt with a hang glider that is so completely stupid that it somehow almost loops back to brilliance. The rest is just noise, squibs and sweaty henchmen.
