ttJOSHUA RADIN, SCHUYLER FISK
ttJoshua Radin has friends in high places, but that’s only part of the story. When the former comedy scriptwriter started conjuring songs in his boxers ’round midnight, he didn’t plan to infiltrate screens big and small. He just happened to pass on a rough demo to buddy Zach Braff who turned it over to Scrubs producers'and, bam!'-instant success. It takes more than connections, however, to stay on top. Radin could coast for years on the stuff that makes We Were Here so enjoyable. But songs about romance, no matter how genuine, could get old after a while. Now that the unintentional musician has some idea where he’s headed, perhaps his next album will reflect a bit more grit or vision. Until then, enjoy his starry-eyed stares and harmonies with girlfriend/collaborator Schuyler Fisk. The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, 10 p.m. Tickets: 24Tix.com.

ttVIDEO KILLED THE RAPPER TOUR
tt“I don’t believe that my music is for everybody,” says hip-hop producer Count Bass D. But “everybody” is who he turns to for outta-sight samples, rummaging through thousands of records for just the right hook, hit, holler. Even D’s Website features YouTube clips of other artists, from Counterpoint to O.G. Style. Not everybody, however, can slice and dice a song quite like D. Using old-school drum machines and samplers, he creates the sort of sounds ProTools addicts can barely approximate. Catch the wizard in action with Boston’s Radix, Masypke’s Tableek and DJ Roddy Rod and Verbal Kent. The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East, 10 p.m. Tickets: 24tix.com.
ttt- Broken West (Kilby Court); Machine Head (Club Vegas)
ttSome say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and while such logic is useful when skirting disaster it’s also one hell of a double-edged sword'a magnet for monotony, if you will. Take the lovely Ben Kweller. He’s been cranking out one enjoyable indie-pop record after another, each one marked by boyish charm and prodigious talent. Only now, Kweller is 25, and the sound he’s perfected for the past decade (give or take departures with Radish) is a little too familiar. With solid chops and plenty of globetrotting trips under his belt, you’d think he might risk a louder or faster or experimental edge. Maybe throw in some psychedelic tricks. Hey, it worked for The Beatles. In the Venue, 219 S. 600 West, 8 p.m. Tickets: 24Tix.com (with The Will Sartain Project).
ttThere’s nothing freaky about Grizzly Bear'and they don’t seem to be anti-anything. Save for almost paradoxical songwriting that’s really just more interesting than bizarre, the Brooklyn indie-rockers are more inviting than the often-inaccessible musicians who share their affection for animal names. Their recent sophomore album Yellow House features tracks that land somewhere between spare, layered, organic, electronic or distantly familiar. You get the gist. “On a Neck on a Spit,” for example, launches as a simple open-mic ballad before this wall of sound swallows it up and turns it out with speedier guitars and sweet, urgent lyrics: “Each day spend it with you/ All my time spend it with you.” Happy Valentine’s Day. Kilby Court, 741 S. 330 West, 7:30 p.m. All-ages. Tickets: 24tix.com.
