Budget battles—like all legislative fights—are always bloody. But if there’s one budget area that’s always under the crosshairs of state bean counters, it’s social services. The afternoon meeting of the committee will focus on budget reductions in the Department of Workforce Services and the Department of Human Services, and also field concerns from service providers to Utah’s low-income populations. It’s been a month since protesters occupied the streets of New York City to protest Wall Street’s ability to buy off politicians and perpetuate the massive gulf between the haves and the have-nots in the country. Join Occupy SLC this week for the group’s two-week-anniversary march. Evolution Community Services Halloween Bash
