Ours Is Bigger

I enjoyed your article on the Salt Lake County art collection [“Lay of the Land,” Dec. 30, City Weekly], but I’m not sure the county has the largest collection of art by Utah artists. The Utah State Fine Arts Collection currently has 1,300 items.

Editor’s note: In checking with Lila Abersold, visual arts manager for the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, we learned that, at 1,300 pieces, the state’s art collection is larger than the county’s, but much of it is on loan to other venues. In addition, the state’s gallery at the Glendinning Home (617 E. South Temple) is temporarily unavailable due to remodeling. Thus, Salt Lake County’s art collection currently is the largest on public display.
