Performing Dance Company: Soaring to New Heights

Oct. 21 & 28; Oct. 22-23, 29-30 @ The Marriot Center for Dance

There is good reason this humble state of ours is world renowned for dance: Companies like to get them hooked young and keep them attached to the main vein all the way through to the professional ranks. One critical step along the way is academic.

For its part, the University of Utah’s Performing Dance Company is one of the best in the modern field. It’s a great place to see up-and-coming dancers—performers who will shortly be joining the corps of the leading professional companies the globe over, and it’s also a excellent place to catch a first glimpse of work geared toward pushing the boundaries of the genre. Soaring to New Heights, PDC’s fall performance, will feature the finest dancers at the U in new work by choreographers such as Abby Fiat, Sharee Lane, Juan Carlos Claudio, Emily Terndrup, Patrick Barnes and Stevan Novakovich.

PDC: Soaring to New Heights @ The Marriot Center for Dance, University of Utah, 801-581-7327, Oct. 21 & 28, 5:30 p.m. and Oct. 22-23, 29-30, 7:30 p.m., $7-$10.
