Organizers of the Utah Pride Festival and Parade say they’re making up for time lost during the COVID pandemic by hosting a Pride Week this year that is bigger than ever.

“We’re seeing incredible support from the community and our sponsors. I think people are ready and excited to show PRIDE and return to pre-pandemic celebrations,” Utah Pride Center Co-CEO Tanya Hawkins said in a prepared statement. “With this being our 30th year as a non-profit supporting LGBTQ+ Utahns, we plan on giving the community a celebration they deserve.”

Pride Week runs from May 29 to June 5 and will feature a series of events, including dance parties, fun runs, film screenings and interfaith services. The week culminates in a two-day festival at Washington Square on June 4 and 5 and a parade on June 5 with a new, extended route through the city.

Beginning at State Street and 200 South, the parade will run east to 400 East and then south to 700 South, ending at 200 East near the Geraldine E King Women’s Center. Organizers say the new route provides more space for seating and social distancing, more tree-lined streets, and will allow better access to the Pride Festival afterward by circling two blocks removed from Washington Square.

More information on the Utah Pride Festival and Parade can be found on the Utah Pride Center website.

Pride Week 2022 will also see the return of the City Weekly Pride Pageant, now in its 11th year. Hosted by Sequoia and featuring a panel of all-star Utah judges, the event will feature competition between the state’s top drag personalities. More information and tickets available on the City Weekly Store.
