Shine a Light

As a Deseret News subscriber and practicing Mormon, your story on the Deseret News in the year since the layoffs [“Deserted News,” Jan. 5, City Weekly] reminds me that City Weekly does, in fact, serve a useful purpose in shedding light where it needs to shine.

A year ago, I mourned the loss of some of my favorite writers, and continue to see how the Deseret News is still cutting corners. Whether or not these cuts are necessary in order to keep the paper solvent may still be debatable, but I’m glad to know at least part of the background to the bloodletting. I continue to read the Deseret News, but is it as good as it once was? No.

Reading D.P. Sorensen, on the other hand, is still a complete waste of time.
