Dancin’ the Night Away: Post-Twilight
Several venues around town dub their after-parties for the Twilight Concert Series “the best,” but only one venue (The Urban Lounge, 241 S. 500 East) sports a DJ collective creatively named after one of the best actors of all time: Ted Dancin’. Ted Dancin’ is a crew of local record spinners assembled from various other creative endeavors in town like Band of Annuals and my dead ego. Thursdays, Dancin’ will be playing “tons of soul, ’80s, hip-hop, [and] jamz to make you dance,” and if you know what that means, you’re on the same wavelength as this group.

The Hotel: Getting Real
The Hotel (404 S. West Temple) often spins hip-hop, but more of the Top 40 stuff the kids dig these days. Make way for a new kid on the Pierpont block as the venue introduces a new Thursday night dedicated to “true” hip-hop called “The Breaks.” To prove the real intent of the night, the turntables are open to DJs ready to try their swift hands on the 1s and 2s from 9-10:30 p.m.; consider it a scratching open-mic night. After the amateurs do their thing, the tables revert to the control of local masters such as DJs Dao, Street Jesus and VO. The mic will also be open to local MCs interested in trying out their homespun floetry.

Hump Day: Whiskey Dick Wednesdays at the Pig
The Green Pig Pub has done a great job of revitalizing the old Cabana Club space (31 E. 400 South) with fun days like Whiskey Dick Wednesdays, when you can get super-cheap whiskey shots. It’s also a great spot to grab a burger or catch sporting events on the tube in a traditional pub atmosphere. Go try out hump day in style, and try to avoid too much whiskey or you will have a less than enchanting evening, as the moniker implies.
