The High Price of Faith

Sadly, your Ida Smith/Christopher Nemelka cover story [“Sealed Fate,” Jan. 27, City Weekly] is merely a reinforcement of a phenomenon that may be unique to Mormonism. Mormons are taught that they are entitled to receive direct revelations for the guidance of their lives. Because of this, Mormonism spins off on the fringes all sorts of nut jobs claiming that God is directing their behavior.

The obvious downside is that society is often made to pay a high and sometimes deadly price for this belief. Brian David Mitchell, the Lafferty brothers and Warren Jeffs are just a few names that come to mind.
