Did you do a lot of thinking about the “missionary position” while serving your mission?

The girl I was with then is now my wife of 13 years, but I made us stop having sex so I could be “worthy” to go. She wasn’t very cooperative either. I was always the one who had to stop, and sometimes I’d have to just get out of the car and pace around a while.

It was a brutal experience in self-discipline, and one of the biggest challenges of my life. But it was unnatural to deny those impulses between two people who loved each other as much as we did. I’m glad we made sure we were compatible sexually before we got married. It would have been reckless not to.
