Did you ever feel you were competing for souls?

I served in a small town on the east side of Puerto Rico. You could just feel the voodoo in the air. On the weekend evenings, the townsfolk would put an altar type of thing out on the porch stoop, with offerings of fresh fruits for the spirits. It is very humid in Puerto Rico, and fresh produce browns very quickly.

The eerie thing was that when you passed by the offering the next day the produce would be colored as if it was just picked except had shrunken in size, like the life had been sucked out of it. That always left me wondering what other forces were at work.
