We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

What were the consequences of not going on a mission?
When I was 19-21, I would look at the low percentages of men my age who were at BYU, because that was the mission timeframe. I knew that small percentage was made up of me and a few football players. I had a girlfriend. I noticed whenever I would go to her apartment, one of her roommates would go into her bedroom. When I recognized the pattern, I asked her roommate why that was. She said her boyfriend didn’t allow her to be in the same room with me because I hadn’t gone on a mission. I don’t know if they thought I brought evil into the apartment or if he thought I was going to take advantage of his girlfriend. So my girlfriend and I would go into her room and have sex and corrupt the holy hell of the sanctuary that they had.
