A Senate committee investigating the Crandall Canyon Mine disaster has accused federal safety regulators of not properly double-checking safety reports submitted by Murray Energy prior to last August’s cave-in. City Weekly asked 7-Eleven manager Loretta Gull whether she thought the lack of double-checking was an inappropriate shortcut or a simple oversight:

It was a shortcut, definitely. Not enough people nowadays are stopping to think about their jobs and how they can do them better; they’re just putting the responsibility off onto other people. As far as professionals go, they should’ve been thinking of what the [miners’] families would have wanted.
