City Weekly asked Julio Aguirre, a graphic designer, what part of American society should we be the most ashamed about?
One thing I notice is the homeless. [At that moment a homeless man approached Aquirre and asked him for change.] I’m sure you’ve seen an increase lately. I’ve had people say they don’t come downtown anymore because they are accosted constantly as they walk down the street. They say they don’t feel safe. But the problem is, nothing is being done. All that ever happens is the homeless are told to move along. Nothing real will be done until some crime is committed or someone is assaulted. Then the city will react and do something about the problem.
