Trial has been set for a 70-year old Orem woman arrested after refusing to give her name to an officer attempting to cite her for not watering her lawn. The woman was injured while resisting arrest. City Weekly asked Kelly Miller of Susie M’s Tattooing if the law should be bent for some and not for others?
I think the police are not applying the law. The law is to serve and protect. The officer went right to the throat. His lack of training prevented him from saying, “This is an old lady, and there is no threat.” Maybe the officer’s action could be construed as abuse—he definitely overreacted, and it didn’t change one thing as far as the infraction goes. Her lawn’s still probably got weeds.
