nGov. Jon Huntsman Jr. is pressing for the state school board to be direct-vote elections. Currently, members of the board are not elected directly but are vetted first by a governor-appointed nominating committee and then voted on by the public. Some say that, for technical school-board positions, this is the best way to get qualified candidates. City Weekly asked Kyra Laveder of the downtown Pier 49 Pizza if she thought the voting process should be changed:n
I think it should stay the same because we’ve done fine so far. It’s kind of weird doing it the other way and people might not be used to doing it that way. Some people don’t want change and might end up wanting it the same old way.
