A professor at the University of Utah, Mario Capecchi recently won the 2007 Nobel Prize for physiology. Yet important stories like his seem to be crowded out by those of celebrities driving drunk. City Weekly asked florist Julie Giles, of Huddleton Floral, why our society is more interested with hearing about famous people falling on their faces than with good people doing good work?
My first thought is that negative stories are what is being driven by the press and the media. If it sells papers, it will get sponsors. I think if they would focus on the positive, they would get better results. The media doesn’t even seem to want to experiment on that. I just wish more people would focus on the positive and less on the negative.
