June 21 may mark the official start of summer, but people have already been jumping the gun on all those fun-in-the-sun summer activities like going topless or having backyard barbecues. Any good neighbor will overlook a harmless topless barbecue, particularly if an invitation was proferred.

However, there is such a thing as getting too early of a start, especially when it comes to that other summer tradition: the neighborhood cleanup. Salt Lake Country instructs residents to begin setting out trash for the cleanup no earlier than 10 days before the neighborhood’s scheduled date.

Rose Park residents Kevin Nollenberg and Jeremiah Maybee filed a report that their neighbor’s garbage appeared on the curb in front of his Chicago Street residence, six weeks early. Other houses on the street followed suit, and debris was soon blowing around the neighborhood.

The county sent out an investigator, who issued a 10-day notice. The result? The neighbor had his pile moved a few feet back onto the lawn'problem solved.
