U of U School of Music: Fridays with Faculty - Michael Chikinda

When: Thu., April 23, 12 p.m. 2015

April is full of excellent culminating projects at the School of Music, including our mainstage opera, Massenet's Cendrillon (April 24 & 25). The Piano Area also presents a special evening to launch the new Lennox Larson Scholarship Endowment.

About the event: Faculty music theorist Michael Chikinda discusses Persichetti’s A Lincoln Address in the context of its commission and subsequent rejection as a new work for Nixon’s second inauguration. Chikinda explores the complicated issue of censorship and the dynamics that led to the rejection of a piece of music that has subsequently been deemed by many as patriotic and exemplary of American values.
