For a little activism in the sun, stretch out those calves and help raise awareness about diabetes in the seventh annual Utah Diabetes Center Fun Run. Then, start next week off with a film screening about the evolution of the gay-pride movement as a global phenomenon. You also won’t want to miss a Salt Lake City Planning Commission meeting discussing rezoning of the North Temple viaduct and the designation of a historic district.

The Utah Diabetes Center is looking for help filling its Treasure Chest, a fund that provides assistance to low-income diabetes patients who need help covering the medical care provided by UDC. Day of registration for the event is $30.

Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride
Monday, May 24
The Salt Lake City Film Center is presenting another documentary to help you shake off Monday apathy. Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride is a documentary that puts gay activism in context by documenting the challenges faced by gay-pride festivities and movements in cities across the world including Zurich, Moscow and Sao Paulo. The event is free and open to the public.

Make sure you sign off on the blueprints for Salt Lake City’s future at this week’s planning-commission meeting. A number of permits are to be approved, including the designation of the Westmoreland historic district, encompassing the neighborhood between 1500 and 1600 East and between 1300 South and Browning Avenue. Also worth checking out is some rezoning work to take effect for the creation of the airport TRAX line and the North Temple Boulevard renovation.
