You know those old friends who, after only a few minutes of catch-up talk, seem like they never moved away? Keith Lockhart is like that, as far as Utah music goes. This weekend, get reacquainted with the former music director of the Utah Symphony—after his tenure of 11 years—as he makes his first appearance before the symphony this season.

His baton will direct excerpts from Georges Bizet’s Carmen, followed by the Utah Symphony premiere of Mark Adamo’s imaginative Four Angels: Concerto for Harp and Orchestra. After the intermission, Lockhart will direct Stravinsky’s witty Pulcinella in full. The composer’s neoclassic shift began with this audacious piece—derived from excerpts of operas by Giovanni Pergolesi. Lockhart will interpret this epic work with his own unique stylings—one for old times’ sake.
