Since some things are too immediate, too intimate, or, seemingly, too inflammatory to discuss in print, there is a tendency to ignore them, if for no other reason than to keep from beating them into bloody, unrecognizable messes.

We want to allow due process for legal matters, but we cannot be silent to unethical behavior.

Letting someone engage in the behavior that we vote them into office to protect against—such as protecting friends from prosecution—is something else. Letting someone pursue wealth for themselves, at all costs, while in our employ, because they are in our employ, by creating shell companies to move money around undetected, is something else.

Owning up to enforcing the law and protecting the people of Utah, and the consumers of Utah, are what we expect of someone elected to such an office as attorney general; it should be what we expect of ourselves. We can only blame our ethical failings if we allow such activities to continue without consequence, without reprobation, without recall.
