We're Not a Police State

by

comment

In Gary Wells’ comment, he writes that Salt Lake County is a “police state” because he has received more traffic tickets here than anywhere else [Letters, Oct. 10, City Weekly].

The term “police state” should be reserved to describe totalitarian regimes like North Korea, Cuba and China, or Saudi Arabia with their religious police. But so much for fair use of language.

My larger point is that police agencies in Salt Lake County should be commended for ticketing this individual or any others who put public safety at risk by violating our reasonable and necessary traffic laws.
