Crossroads Fundraiser
The Crossroads Urban Center, which works to help the underserved by providing emergency food, diapers, infant formula and clothing to those in need, will host its ninth-annual Wine & Cheese Benefit Party at The Bayou on Sunday, Sept. 18, from 1-4 p.m. Wine, nonalcoholic beverages, gourmet cheeses, assorted breads and fresh fruit will be served, and the local band Controlled Burn will perform. Tickets cost $45 per person, and all proceeds benefit Crossroads Urban Center. “Crossroads works to address the root causes of poverty and injustice, not merely the symptoms. This means we must make an unwavering commitment to organizing the community and involving people in the decisions that affect their lives and impact their ability to be self-sufficient,” says Glenn Bailey, the center’s executive director. “The Wine & Cheese Party is a great chance to have fun and support valuable community services for those in need.” In addition to The Bayou, Tony Caputo’s Market & Deli, Kiler Grove Winegrowers and Harmons are donating food and wine for the event. To buy tickets in advance, phone 801-364-7765.

Fleming’s Winesdays
Aside from very good steaks, seafood and other tempting menu selections—not to mention top-notch table and bar service—one of the things that keeps me coming back to Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is the Fleming’s 100. That refers to the 100 wines that Fleming’s offers by the glass—many more than any other local restaurant I’m aware of—ranging from sparkling wines and interesting whites from around the world, to big, bold reds from producers such as Orin Swift, Raymond, Trefethen, Rodney Strong, Jean-Luc Colombo and many more. And as though that weren’t enticing enough for wine lovers, Fleming’s is now offering complimentary corkage on your own bottle of wine every Wednesday during “Winesdays” in September. By the way, here’s something you might not expect: Complimentary corkage is not allowed in 13 states, including Arizona, Colorado and Massachusetts, but it is here. So, order up a delicious Prime steak, and uncork one of those special bottles you’ve been saving.
