For those of you planning to attend tonight's Sonic Youth show, good news: chances of getting crushed by hundreds of middle-aged noise fans are 10 percent less likely to happen thanks to the foresight of SLC Arts Council organizers and fire marshals who are expanding the Gallivan's barricaded perimeter to accommodate the predicted higher-than-usual turnout.--- Maybe that's not enough precaution for your tastes. Maybe you don't even like Sonic Youth's - as Lydia Lunch put it - hurricane of sound. If so, there are some great shows taking place at Woodshed, Kilby Court and Club Vegas along with my pick of the night:

Celebrate the launch of Karamba’s new all-inclusive weekly party featuring the cr%uFFFDme de la cr%uFFFDme of Utah’s thriving Brazilian music scene. Tonight’s opening festivities will include performances by Jinga Boa, Samba Gringa, Samba Fogo, DJ Franklin and DJ Juliotti—dynamic local acts presenting a tantalizing mix of Latin, Afrobeat, grindcore, Capoiera, fire dance and hip-hop. Take a walk on the wild side with this crazy, sexy community every Thursday night. MySpace.com/Swingueira_Loka.

Also, SY opener Awesome Color does appear to be quite awesome
