Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

Bennett Win: START Treaty Vote

I never thought I'd say it, but I'm going to miss Sen. Bob Bennett.---

Take a look at this map showing how the vote went state-by-state to advance the New START treaty. Utah's red-state neighbors Arizona, Idaho and Wyoming each cast two Senate votes against allowing a vote on the treaty to limit nuke proliferation.

Surprisingly, Utah got it half right: One for, and one against. The good guy? Bennett. Apparently, since Senator-elect Mike Lee will replace him in 2011, Bennett had nothing to lose by making the sensible choice, regardless of how much it might irritate Utah hawks.

The final Senate vote is slated for Wednesday.
