Lounge Act Wednesday: Bonin' your way toward the weekend

Whether you like classic rock, soulful funk or furious dance beats, you have some options Wednesday night.---

Top of the list for this guy is Fishbone, who are headlining a gig at the Star Bar in Park City. The ska/funk/punk veterans have been killing audiences for more than a quarter-century, and some of the gigs I remember most from my years in Utah feature Angelo and Co., from sold-out gigs at the Speedway Cafe to rocking stacks of amps at DV8 to their set at the Lollapalooza show in Ogden way back in 1993. A guaranteed good time, every time. The show starts at 9 p.m. with Sober Down opening.

Here in the Salt Lake valley, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals bring their classic-rock sound to town. I don't know what to make of this Vermont crew. I have jam-band-loving friends who dig 'em, rocker friends, too. And yet they're poppy enough that one of Potter's songs was picked to play during the closing credits of recent Disney feature Tangled. The show starts at 8 p.m. at The Depot with opener Chamberlin. Beware the Jazz game next door eating all the parking; plan ahead for that.

And up at The Urban Lounge, it's a showcase of stellar dance music, courtesy of ace DJs including headliners The Twelves, Mstershredder, Type Funk and more (found conflicting lineups out there in cyberspace, so recent City Weekly DJ Spin-off winner Flash n Flare might also be part of the bill. Let's hope so!).
