Wasatch Roller Derby played their 2011 season-finale bout on Saturday, June 4 at the Derby Depot in Salt Lake City. WRD's Action Girl recaps: ---

"Wasatch Roller Derby’s home teams, the Black Diamond Divas and the Hot Wheelers, played the last bout of their 2011 season on Saturday night. It was evident from the first whistle they were playing for keeps! Black Diamond Diva, Sarin Gasp, was ejected early from the game after a blatant counterclockwise block against Hot Wheeler blocker Frau Meow. New jammer for the Hot Wheelers, Circumskate, made some impressive moves that repeatedly earned her lead-jammer status and helped her team gain an early lead. Veteran ammer Skull Candi chose to block for the majority of the game, which gave her an opportunity to control the scoreboard against Divas jammer Moon Raker. Despite their valiant efforts, the Hot Wheelers were down by 20 going into halftime but they did manage to mount an assault to regain some points after the second half. A battle for the lead ensued; alas, the Hot Wheelers were unable to maintain the lead and the Black Diamond Divas took home the win with a final score of 99 to 86.

"Although this was the final home team game of the 2011 season, Wasatch Roller Derby still has much more in store this year. Next bout: WRD’s travel team, Midnight Terror, takes on the Slaughterhouse Derby Girls from Greeley, Colorado, at noon on Sunday, June 26 at the Derby Depot." Meanwhile, up north in Boise on Saturday, Ogden's Junction City Roller Dolls hit the road to face off against the Treasure Valley Roller Girls, where JCRD's all-star Trainwrecks defeated TVRG 151-121. Next local Junction City bout: Saturday, June 25 at the Davis Conference Center in Layton; tickets & info: JCRDolls.com.
