This weekend is epic when it comes to great live music.---

Sure, there are plenty of other activities to partake in, and you should definitely peruse the City Weekly event listings to see all that SLC and the surrounding towns have to offer. But we're going to focus on tunes, and you should, too.

FRIDAY

Tonight, local hip-hop label Feel Good Music is hosting a showcase of a bunch of its artists, and label founder Young Sim is releasing a new CD at the show at Karamba, as well. Good stuff, starting at 8:30 p.m.

The State Room is hosting NoCal rockers and longtime Utah faves The Mother Hips Friday night.  You ABBA fans—and I know you're out there, I can hear you singing "Mamma Mia" right now—can catch an uncanny recreation of the real thing Friday night at the Sandy Amphitheater with Arrival: The Music of ABBA.

SATURDAY

The highlight of the weekend for me is the free Canyons show in Park City by the always incredible Alejandro Escovedo, pictured, a Texas roots-rocker who's played in everything from punk bands like The Nuns in the '70s to alt-country bands like Rank n File in the '80s before going solo and delivering an excellent series of albums, including last year's Street Songs of Love. His show is at 6 p.m. at the Canyons, and it's byob and picnic-friendly.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, Lyle Lovett & His Large Band are featured at Red Butte Garden, while Rosanne Cash headlines at Deer Valley.  The Urban Lounge hosts alt-folkie Paleo. Up in O-town, the Utah Irish Music Festival takes over the Ogden Amphitheater on Sunday, all day long.

And the brand-spanking-new Urban Flea Market opens for the first time at the City & County Building Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
