Lounge Act Thursday: Two Jerrys, retro modern dance and melting

We like to treat Thursday like a weekend, as a general rule, so get out and rage! Here's how and where.---

I know a certain hipster contingent that would never admit to being into the Grateful Dead, and that's fine. It leaves more dancing space for those folks happy to hear Jerry and Co.'s tunes played live. Dark Star Orchestra has been recreating entire shows from the Dead's past for years now, and they'll do it again Thursday night at The Depot. I saw these guys for the first time last year, and it was a blast. Well, what I remember of it was a blast. Here's hoping they play "Tennessee Jed."

No doubt some of the folks going to DSO will regret missing Jerry Joseph & the Jackmormons playing at The State Room. The longtime Utah faves don't get around as often as they used to, so take this chance to catch them while you can.

Kilby Court is hosting aggro Japanese rockers Melt Banana (pictured) in what will surely be the oddest show of the night.

The Repertory Dance Theatre kicks off its weekend of performances of Vanguard, a somewhat retro show that looks back at modern dance in the '60s. Should be really cool. It's at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Wagner. And the Hive Theatre Company kicks off its weekend's worth of shows of Baby With the Bathwater at 8 p.m. at the Sugar Space.
