A Merry X-Mas With The Lazy Waves

Today, pre-written from not today, it's a holiday wish to you from this blog and its slightly drunk writer. --- While the great majority of you are unwrapping gifts and spending time with family, I'm huddled up in a warm blanket with a bottle of wine, occasionally playing video games and watching holiday episodes of TV classics. Although I must say that recent episode of The Simpsons was one of the best in years. Drunk Lisa and drunk Bart ... you couldn't capture a better photo of holiday dysfunction in all its hilarity. But beyond the television watching, the photo below pretty much captures my lazy weekend.

Usually every X-Mas, I try to elaborate on the holiday and thoughts on it from a different aspect of society in general during this time of year, or my broken life that has a few sections in dire need of repair. (Note to future writers: Being damaged as a person isn't a requirement, but it helps!) This year, I felt like taking a break from a lot of that. Not to pull too much of the curtain back, but the first half of this year was a real pain in the ass on multiple levels, and the second had some real eye-opening experiences that would take too long to elaborate on. So today, you're only getting a spoonful of snark and reflection as opposed to the whole bottle -- oh, and some pretty lights.

As is the tradition, we bring you a music video for the holiday! A little setup for you: During my stint in broadcast news, I pitched to producing heads that we should take an entire segment in our nightly newscast on Christmas Day and just have a musical guest play. No interlude, no dumbass graphics, no talent looking awkward on the side, no leading to the break, no last-minute advertising banners or news tickers -- just a simple music spot for four minutes, something smooth or upbeat with a holiday theme, or at least music filled with spirit, the idea being that it would be a gift to the viewing audience who graciously decided to tune into our station on a night when they could be doing dozens of other things. It was actually praised as being a great idea by several staff, including some of the higher-ups. So naturally, it never the made air.

Rather than let that idea die, I incorporated it to my own blog for the yearly post to happen before or on the holiday. The past two years, we've presented songs and music videos made exclusively for City Weekly and this blog from the Daniel Day Trio and the now defunct group The Continentals. This year we've got a real treat for you, an original song from the local indie-pop trio, The Lazy Waves! Enjoy the video, and if you love the song, you can download it for free from the group's Bandcamp page. Be sure to check out their other music, as well. Merry X-Mas to you all.
