What’s new on the tube tonight:

The Pauly D Project (MTV) Series Debut: Of the 38 planned spin-offs from Jersey Shore, The Pauly D Project seems the least likely to succeed: ---Who wants to watch hairboy be all “professional” and “driven” in his quest to become America’s Next Top Celebrity DJ? MTV viewers want drunken antics, random hookups and, if at all possible, a pregnant 14-year-old or two. Sure, for some of us, the mere concept of “celebrity DJ” is comedy enough, but even with D’s cartoon entourage, this doesn’t smell like a hit. Don’t get attached, guido enthusiasts—just stay tuned for the next whiff from the Jersey Shore factory.

Rules of Engagement (CBS) Return: You can’t kill the Patrick Warburton/David Spade sitcom! And really, after Shit My Dad Says, How to Be a Gentleman, Rob and the other post-Big Bang Theory 7:30 p.m. filler CBS has excreted, why would you? Tonight, there’s general wackiness about dirty scavenger hunts and sex tapes—it's family night on CBS again!

Also new tonight:
Person of Interest, The Mentalist (CBS); Community, 30 Rock, Up All Night, Awake (NBC); American Idol, Touch (Fox); The Vampire Diaries, The Secret Circle (The CW); The First 48 (A&E); Punk’d, I Just Want My Pants Back (MTV); Delocated (Adult Swim)
