Dear GYA, I don't know how to feel about winning every single award at this year's Razzies. I thought people liked my latest flick, Jack & Jill. It has all the classic elements of a Sandler flick: me in a mansion, me dressed up in drag ... me getting hit in the crotch. I don't get it.--- The last movie I did that was sorta funny was Funny People, and that was about me hiring people to make me funny. What's happening to me?! -Adam Sandler
Adam, what's happening here is quite simple: You've become irrelevant. Eventually, this happens to all SNL stars. Just look at Tim Meadows, David Spade and Dana Carvey -- every one of them is no longer funny. Oh, hey, and look at that, they're all in Jack & Jill. Luckily for you there's lots of stuff going on today that will cheer you up...
Head over to the Natural History Museum of Utah for The Nature of Things lecture series. Today's special guests are the hosts of NPR's Radiolab. They'll be discussing the art of storytelling and why it's so problematic to make a good story great. You should get a lot out of this. The show starts at 7 p.m.
If lectures aren't your thing, then check out Cats at the Ellen Eccles Theatre. I don't think anyone really knows what it's about, other than it's a musical about cats that can sing. Who cares what it's about? People love cats. Anyways, it's got some killer Andrew Lloyd Webber jams and it's the longest running Broadway show ever. The curtains go up at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are going from $30-$44.
And if you're in the West Valley zone, check out some Intricate Egg Carvings at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., "Best of Utah 2011" winner egg carver Brian Baity will be showcasing his exhibit of various carved eggs. He even has one that has vignettes of West Valley City (There'd better be an In-N-Out in there.). Best of all, it's free.
Other events worth a look:
- University of Utah debaters will be discussing the controversial issue of sex education in public schools at 5:30 p.m in the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building.
- Sleeping With Sirens will be playing at In The Venue/Club Sound at 7 p.m.
- Geeks Who Drink pub trivia over at Maggie McGees beginning at 8 p.m.
- City Weekly & True TV present free screenings of Justified and American Horror Story at Brewvies. The show starts at 8 p.m.
