Saturday, June 2: The Ogden-based Junction City Roller Dolls’ third bout of their 2012 season actually took place in O-Town proper—other than that, it was beatdown business as usual for JCRD rookie team the Aftershocks. ---

The bare-bones, no-A/C Golden Spike Event Center feels more “roller derby” than JCRD’s usual bout host, Layton’s swank Davis Conference Center, and the Railway Banditas (sporting a slim lineup, almost half newbies) wasted no time putting their stamp on the joint: Jammer Smashleigh scored 4 in the first of what would go on to be approximately 450 jams from her for the night, and the Banditas never looked back. The Aftershocks’ Josie Cansockaho finally put her team on the board after several scoreless runs, but neither she nor Wreck N’ Glamour could make any progress against the Banditas’ scoring onslaught. Defensively, however, the Aftershocks looked stronger than ever, with blockers Hannah Bull and Tough Tittie Yeoman slamming like linebackers in the playoffs. Score at halftime: Railway Banditas 68, Aftershocks 21.

Despite a musical backdrop consisting of an agonizing wedding playlist from hell (Derby leagues: If your DJ ever spins “Solsbury Hill” or “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” during a bout, he requires a skate to the head—put it in your charter), there was some serious roller derby being played here—even if it was mostly The Smashleigh Show for the Railway Banditas, who relieved her only sporadically with jammers Killa Patra and Tic Tac Flo. A late-period 20-pointer by Josie Cansockaho lifted the Aftershocks out of Utter Smackdown territory, but it was nowhere near enough to make the Banditas break a sweat. Final score: Railway Banditas 124, Aftershocks 66.

Next Junction City Roller Dolls bout: Saturday, June 16, facing off against the Happy Valley Derby Darlins on their home turf in Spanish Fork. Tickets and info: JCRDolls.com and HappyValleyDerbyDarlins.com. Full local derby bouts schedule here: Utah Roller Derby 2012.
