Sutherland's Support of ALEC Is Preachin' to the Choir

Following publication of Katharine Biele's cover story "Alec Is Coming" [July 12, City Weekly], and in response to criticism by various groups advocating for open government, Utah's conservative think tank, the Sutherland Institute, does its part to set the record straight --- about its support of American Legislative Exchange Council, scheduled to hold its annual meeting in Utah July 25-28.

Sutherland produced a video that features Utah lawmakers Michael Waddoups, Curtis Bramble, Wayne Niederhauser, Brad Daw and Gage Froerer, who take issue with the criticism by Utah "lefties." In the video, Sen. Niederhauser says, “If you don’t like free markets, limited government, federalism and Jeffersonian principles, you’re going to hate ALEC because that’s what they stand for; that’s the principles that we base all our model legislation on.”

The video can be seen here.
