We need your help.

Newspapers and media companies nationwide are closing or suffering mass layoffs since the coronavirus impacted all of us starting in March. City Weekly's entire existence is directly tied to people getting together in groups--in clubs, restaurants, and at concerts and events--which are the industries most affected by new coronavirus regulations.

Our industry is not healthy. Yet, City Weekly has continued publishing thanks to the generosity of readers like you. Utah needs independent journalism more than ever, and we're asking for your continued support of our editorial voice. We are fighting for you and all the people and businesses hardest hit by this pandemic.

You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation on PressBackers.com, which directs you to our Galena Fund 501(c)(3) non-profit, a resource dedicated to help fund local journalism. It is never too late. It is never too little. Thank you. DONATE

The City Weekly Music Awards has entered its second weekend and that means two things: There are three more amazing showcases of local music to behold. And the Band of the Year will be announced soon!---

The first weekend was a blast, as attested to by these reviews for the hip-hop showcase at 5 Monkeys and the eclectic showcases at Burt’s Tiki Lounge and at The Woodshed. If you don’t like reading long reviews, you can check out the recap over here.

At these shows, fans cast their vote for Band of the Year. The in-person vote is weighted significantly more than online (we want folks to get out and see some of these incredible 22 local bands), but the online does play a key role. The total vote-getting band will be announced in the May 2 issue of City Weekly.

Online voting ends at midnight on Saturday, April 27. So, go click and cast. To vote, or for a list of lineups, current reviews and general CWMA information, go here. And follow the action on Twitter with #CWMA.
